Camera highlight: Canon EOS R5

Canon’s new EOS R5 will be the company’s most advanced full-frame mirrorless camera to date. The advances begin with a new CMOS sensor design, a new image processor, and new optical technologies. Also in development are seven RF lenses and two RF lens extenders.

Leveraging the benefits of the R System’s wide lens mount, shorter back focus, and high-speed data transmission between lens and camera, the R5 will record internal 8K video capture up to 29.97fps using the full width of the image sensor. This will also allow for high-resolution still image extraction. Duel Pixel CMOS autofocus will be available in all 8K recording modes.

The EOS R5 will implement a new animal detection autofocus technology to help users steadily track dogs, cats, birds, and other animals by detecting their body, face, and eyes even in quick movements. The R5 will incorporate the live view technology available in Canon’s flagship EOS-1D Mark III camera.

When this camera’s in-body image stabilization is combined with Canon’s in-lens stabilization, users may be able to handhold the camera in light levels that were previously inadvisable. 

The Canon EOS R5 is scheduled for release later this year.
